In my experience, they love children. Want to be considered part of the family They feel like they own the house!

I’m considering getting one as a pet. Are they hard to care for?

That depends on YOU. They get used to a schedule, you have to keep it up. You have to be disciplined in order to discipline them!


When can a male dachshund first start breeding?

A male Dachshund can first start breeding at around 12 months of age, as this is when they typically reach full sexual maturity. However, it’s best to wait until they are 18-24 months old to ensure they are fully developed and healthy.


Where is the best place to find my miniature dachshund?

That depends on what you want. There are many reputable breeders. I once drove for HOURS, across Alabama to find one I wanted.


What about house-breaking?

They are stubborn, and very hard to house-break.
Despite over a year of consistent training, my doxies STILL refused to stop “Marking Territory.” They mark territory by pooping and peeing. That’s their instinct.


How big do they get?

They’ll remain tiny.


What are the sizes they come in?

Dachshunds come in three sizes:

  1. Standard Dachshunds, weighing 16–32 pounds.
  2. Miniature Dachshunds, weighing up to 11 pounds.
  3. Rabbit Dachshunds (found in some regions), weighing 8–10 pounds, bred mainly in Europe.

How much does a dachshund puppy cost?


The cost of a Dachshund puppy typically ranges from $500 to $3,500, depending on factors like the breeder’s reputation, pedigree, size, coat type, and location. Puppies from show-quality lines or with rare coat patterns can cost even more.


If I buy from a breeder across the country, What about shipping?

Most dachshund breeders don’t like having to ship their pups. But some will.

In a few words, You don’t own them. They own you.

They are the most loving, loyal animals you ever want to own. They love you. But, they’re still in charge. They are loud, boisterous, and noisy at times. Barking, always.
